Crappy croup.
Okay, remember that wet cough I wrote about in “Now I Know What It Feels Like…?” It turned out that was croup. Antimonium tart did NOT work, unfortunately. So Sunday the cough started, and Monday it got worse…a LOT worse. Monday night was a 100% sleepless night for all of us. Each time Aria coughed, she would wake up and cry and cry and cry. She didn’t want to nurse, she just wanted to be held. I would get up, hold her, rock her to sleep, only to have my efforts thwarted again at the next cough. So on Tuesday, … Continue reading
Epiphany!
This is neither here nor there, but I figured out why “Antarctica” was the correct answer….because Latin America actually pertains to all of the countries south of North America that once spoke Spanish or Portuguese…so that would mean that South America is included in Latin America. Therefore, the only continent south of Latin America would be Antarctica. I get it now!! Just wanted to share…

Tiger mothers: adding my two cents
Many people have asked me whether Amy Chua’s article and her child-raising tactics applied to my life. I tell them a resounding, “YES,” with one big difference: my Tiger mother made Amy Chua look like a cub. My mother was ferocious…Amy Chua is almost sweet in comparison. I remember bringing home a B on a Social Studies quiz one day when I was in 5th grade. Truthfully, I still dispute that test result, because the question that caused such a “low” grade was, “Which continent is south of Latin America?” I answered, “South America.” Mr. Plutto, our teacher, said the … Continue reading
Now I know what it feels like…
to be the worried mother of a sick baby. Aria woke up yesterday with a wet, non-productive cough (in case you are wondering, “non-productive” means there is no phlegm or sputum coming out during the cough). She didn’t have a fever, but she did feel warmer than usual. Her forehead felt normal, but her hands were very warm, when they are usually cool to the touch. It’s heart-wrenching to have your baby cough herself awake several times during the night and be visibly drowsy and tired-looking during the day. This being the first time we are parents, and the first time our baby has shown any … Continue reading
Sweet, sweet silence!
Wow, I can’t believe I’m saying this: I LOVE day care! I guess my husband, mother-in-law, and I were doing everything wrong…we’ve been experiencing the baby as a poor sleeper, turning us into daytime zombies in the process. We had a hard time getting her to take naps and sleep through the night. Well, Aria’s gone to daycare for 6 days now, and she naps regularly 3 times a day and sleeps a good 6-7 hour chunk at night, which is so heavenly, I don’t know what to do with myself. When I asked them what they did, they explained … Continue reading
Conquer the Flu with Homeopathy!
I’m currently serving as Wellness Director for Preston Wynne Spa in Saratoga, CA. I set up wellness classes and invite community experts to come and give talks to Preston Wynne clientele (and non-clientele) about a range of health and nutrition topics. Next Thursday, January 20, I’ve got a GREAT session with Bay Area Homeopath, Lisette Narragon. Lisette is one of these women you just want to hug as soon as you meet her. She’s like me, she has a background in Product Marketing in high-tech, but then fell in love with Homeopathy when it solved some difficult health issues for … Continue reading
Serves Me Right.
I seldom get sick. I so seldom get sick that I remember the last time I got sick: July 2006. I so seldom get sick that I’ve developed a great big ego about it, and frequently have been heard to boast, “I NEVER get sick.” So I guess it serves me right that I went to Chicago for the holidays and promptly got flattened – LAID OUT – by some virus or bug that my husband caught on the plane over, and was generous enough to share with me. So learning #1 is: Don’t go around boasting that you don’t … Continue reading
