How to Change a Poopie Diaper on the Airplane
First, realize and accept this Universal Law: that all babies like to poop into a clean diaper. So don’t be surprised to have that unique doody scent wafting your way immediately after you have just changed your baby. Second, throw in the fact that you are flying across country for 6 hours and 6 minutes on an A-319, which for the uninitiated, is like flying in a cigarette holder with wings. Which means, there is just the one aisle, and everyone on the plane, seemingly, has to use the lavatory at the same time your baby has pooped. So get … Continue reading

Vacations, big families, and random thoughts.
We flew to Boston two days ago for our first summer vacation: my husband’s family reunion. The baby actually did pretty well on the plane, fussing only intermittently and taking two pretty good-length naps. (At this point, I have to thank my Twitter-friends, @granolacatholic and @Mummathehealer, for their suggestion to use Calms Forte homeopathic medicine – I spiked her drinking water with it, LOL, and I think it worked). Anyway, since we’ve gotten here, I’ve had several thoughts strike me. “Wow, I wish I had a big family like my husband does.” While he was growing up, he must have … Continue reading
Where to Get Quality Essential Oils
People are always asking me where they can purchase high-quality essential oils. I used to never want to tell them back when I owned a spa, because…well…I wanted them to order from me (selfish, I know). But now that I’m done with that chapter of my life, heck, I’ll reveal everything. Below is my list of favorite suppliers: The Apothecary Shoppe at ACHS: This is where I went to school for Aromatherapy. They supply VERY high-quality, pure, organic essential oils for reasonable prices. The only drawback is that they don’t have the widest selection, and are therefore lacking some of … Continue reading
How to Make Your Own Essential Oil Skin Care Blends
I’ve been making essential oil facial blends a long time – since I first became a certified Aromatherapist, in fact. I used to have a long list of clients for whom I would customize essential oil blends, and for each of them, I would sit down and do a lengthy consultation about their top skin concerns as well as do skin patch testing with specific essential oils. Since I can’t sit with you in person and do the skin patch testing, I am going to ask that you do a skin patch test on your own whenever you want to … Continue reading

Essential Oil Blends for Facial Skin Care
Does this sound familiar? I am a busy new Mom who is juggling working, blogging, a couple new businesses, and a 10.5 month old. Oh, and a husband, too. So I kind of pushed taking care of myself a little further down on my priority list, and by taking care of myself, I mean specifically, making any effort to look attractive. (See my blog post about the first time I went shopping after giving birth). Pre-baby, I had it pretty good. I used to own a wellness spa, and so great estheticians, regular facials, and excellent, effective, and organic skin … Continue reading
Happy First Father’s Day!
Thank you, Hubby, for being a wonderful father to our daughter. Thank you for never losing your faith that God would bless us with a little soul to love. Thank you for your enthusiastic reception of the news that I was pregnant (and for leaving the Gator bar immediately to come and celebrate with me – I know it’s hard for you to leave those Florida games). Thank you for taking such solicitous care of me throughout the pregnancy, and for insisting on rubbing my growing tummy every night. Thank you for talking to my stomach and telling our unborn … Continue reading
Holistic Remedies for Earaches, Ear Infections in Children
www.skinnyscoop.com I admit I feel a bit hypocritical as I type this post, because when my baby girl got her first ear infection, I would have had to answer, “Doctor-prescribed antibiotics” (answer the poll on the left to see what other Moms said). Then again, I hadn’t done the research then that I have done now. And then again, my daughter had also been coughing to the point of vomiting for 16 days straight, and it turned out she was positive for whooping cough. As worried, sleep-deprived, and distraught as I was, I think I will let myself off the … Continue reading

8 Cavities and a Crown Replacement?!?!
I am still reeling from my dental appointment last Friday. My X-rays show that I have a whopping 8 cavities and also need a replacement of one of my crowns. I am feeling dazed, confused, and a little angry. Yes, I’m having a “Not fair!” and “Poor me!” moment. A little background: My last X-rays were in November 2008. I had lost my dental insurance and only recently gotten it back that month. After more than 8 years away from the dentist, I finally slunk back in for a cleaning. The dentist told me I had 2 cavities that needed … Continue reading
