Who am I kidding? I am not particularly holistic…

Confused Mom

The name of this blog is “Holistic Mamas.” I belong to the Holistic Moms Network. I know a lot about Aromatherapy and herbs and natural remedies. But if I take a good look at myself in the mirror, I am not particularly holistic. At all. And I am not being hard on myself. No, in fact, I have always been particularly good at letting myself off the hook. I look around at all the other Moms in the Holistic Moms chapter with me, and in comparison, I am decidedly UN-holistic. Why do I say this? Because many of the other … Continue reading

5 Ways to Use Lemon Essential Oil

Lemons

I kind of got inspired by my previous posts on how to use Lavender and Peppermint essential oils to write a series on how to use other essential oils. I figure that people sometimes buy tons of essential oils only to leave them sitting around in the cabinet because they don’t know how to really use them. So in addition to writing about remedies for specific physical and emotional issues, I should also write about specific oils and what I like to use them for, right? So here goes, my 5 favorite ways to use Lemon (Citrus limonum) essential oil: … Continue reading

How to Give Yourself a Spa Facial at Home

Young woman giving herself a facial

Originally, I was going to title this post, “How to Give Yourself a Spa-Quality Facial at Home,” but then I thought about it, and really, you can’t. For another thing, it’s infinitely better to have someone else massage your face and neck and shoulders than to do it yourself. So, I omitted the word “Quality” from my title because it would just set me up for failure. … Continue reading

5 Ways to Use Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint-Smaller

As I type, I have a whanging headache. It is so bad, in fact, that I cannot sleep (obviously, I’m sitting here blogging). It’s kind of hard to rack your brain for a good natural headache remedy when your brain already hurts. But just now, an inspiration struck me: Peppermint Essential Oil. Yeah, baby! I’ve rubbed a few drops on my temples, the back of my neck, and on my shoulders, and I’m just waiting for that nice menthol-y tingle to settle in (where do you think “menthol” comes from? That’s right, from Mentha piperita). Ahh, can’t wait. Well, now, another inspiration … Continue reading

Blissful Bits – July 10, 2012

Little Apple June 2012

It seems birds like us, for when I went to the backyard to draw on the cement with my little girl today, I looked up into our patio umbrella and this beautiful sight greeted me: a robin red-breast had made her home there with her young. Later, after I went back into the house, I saw her little ones craning their necks toward her to feed. Other reasons to be blissful today: The sight of magnolias in bloom: beautiful white bows on boughs. The inimitable scent of magnolias on the July breeze: like perfectly clean laundry. The daily antics of … Continue reading
