A great article about Holistic Mamas from Thrift Culture Now

I started Holistic Mamas in November 2010, and it has been an incredible ride. I have been amazed at how it has taken off in ways I would never have foreseen. As of this writing, Holistic Mamas has over 1,400 Twitter followers and 1,000 Facebook fans/likers. eCollegeFinder awarded us with a Top 115 Parenting Blogs Award and we were also written up by the editors at ThriftCultureNow, a leading webzine for those seeking to live their best life, frugally. I have been so fortunate to be joined by such leading natural healers as Dr. Marcel Hernandez, Dr. Connie Hernandez, and Dr. Corrine Wang as co-bloggers, and I am excited to continue to expand the panel of natural health experts that Holistic Mamas subscribers can access.

Would you like to join me on my natural parenting journey and quest to take care of my daughter and family with Mother Nature’s medicine cabinet?

Who am I? I’m Mare, a wife, mother, sister, daughter, and stalwart friend. I am also a former wellness spa owner, a Master Herbalist, and a certified Aromatherapist. It is my passion to spread the message about the many wonderful remedies I have used to support the optimal health of my husband and my little girl, code-named, “The Little Apple.” I also love to discover new products and brands that ascribe to a holistic healing philosophy and share those with my audience base.

Currently, I work as a high-tech marketing consultant and mommy blogger. I am always seeking to improve myself, and these days, with a young child and a newfound desire to feed her the healthiest foods, I am earnestly trying to improve my culinary skills and in particular, to learn how to prepare healthier meals for her.

I am also constantly striving to grow as a person and as a mother. On my best day, I’m loving, nurturing, giving, generous, funny, fun, positive, happy, energetic, and conscious. On my worst day, I’m petty, small-minded, mean-spirited, nasty, irritable, short-tempered, judgmental, hypocritical, and selfish. If I had to pick one overall adjective for myself, I might say I’m “evolving.” That’s it, just evolving.

I am passionate about natural health, and about using natural remedies to keep my child healthy. I believe that we’ve all veered too far away from using herbs, essential oils, homeopathy, and other natural healing methods to heal our bodies. Instead, the drugs created by today’s pharmaceuticals and prescribed by today’s doctors have increasingly powerful side effects to go along with their “healing” capabilities (I put healing in quotes because mostly, today’s drugs just suppress or “manage” the symptoms). And to what avail? As we keep looking for antibiotics that can kill more strains of bacteria, the bacteria mutate and become more resistant, until they ultimately become the “superbugs” that are highly dangerous and nearly impossible to eradicate. That being said, I am not one of these people who want to throw the MDs out with the bathwater. But I do believe that often times, the first and best place we should turn to is nature’s medicine chest, to the pharmacy God gave us when He put us on this earth.

Accordingly, I started this web site to help spread the word to my fellow mommies who want to take care of their kiddoes holistically. I hope you will find the information useful, and that you will share your wisdom with me as well. Please consider joining my community!
