My Little Seaweed Monster; or How to Bribe Your Toddler (Mine, Anyway)

My little girl is approaching 16 months, and she’s got about 25 to 30 words total across Mandarin Chinese and English. She says, “Hi,” “Up,” “All done,” “Mama,” “Daddy,” “Hello,” “Duck,” “Sit,” “Eat,” “More,” “Poo-poo,” “Pee-pee,” “Tea,” and “Lola” (which means grandmother, in Tagalog). Her absolute, all-time favorite word, though, is “No!” This is how she uses it: Honey, will you sit? Mommy is going to feed you. “NO!” Sweetheart, let’s get back in the stroller so we can go home. “NO!” Mommy is too tired to give you “Nay Nay” (breasts, in Mandarin). “NO!
