How to Give Yourself a Spa Facial at Home
Originally, I was going to title this post, “How to Give Yourself a Spa-Quality Facial at Home,” but then I thought about it, and really, you can’t. For one thing, at a spa you’re being taken care of by a professional esthetician, who as part of her training regimen, (hopefully) learned how to properly do extractions without harming your skin. For another thing, it’s infinitely better to have someone else massage your face and neck and shoulders than to do it yourself. So, I omitted the word “Quality” from my title because it would just set me up for failure. … Continue reading

Another Do-It-Yourself-At-Home Beauty & Skin Care Secret: Aromatherapy Facial Masks
I had built up a little momentum blogging on essential oil facial steams and using essential oil hydrosols as facial toners, and was intending to go on to talk about facial masks, when my little one got sick and my train of thought got derailed. But now the little one is 90% recovered, and I’m back to talking about Aromatherapy and skin care. Masks are arguably the most important step in every facial, because it is during the masking process that toxins are drawn out of the skin and nutrients replenished into the skin. As a spa owner, I used … Continue reading
Do-It-Yourself at Home Beauty & Skin Care Secret: Aromatherapy Facial Toners
I guess I’ve got facials on the brain. Earlier this week, I posted about the benefits of essential oil facial steams, and today, I’m back to talk about facial toners. Before I owned a spa, I used to think that facial toners were one of those unnecessary items that the esthetician tried to sell me just to line her pockets. Not true. It turns out that toners are a very important part of your skin care regime, because they help to a) remove excess makeup; b) balance the acid mantle on your face (that the cleanser has usually taken off); … Continue reading

Do-It-Yourself at Home Beauty & Skin Care Secret: Essential Oil Facial Steams
When I used to own a wellness spa, my favorite thing to do was to get a facial (okay, I loved the body wraps, too, I can’t lie). I used to love climbing up onto those comfortable esthetics beds underneath those warm sheets, and letting my fabulous staff put scrumptious masques on my face. I think my absolute favorite part, though, was the steam that billowed over my skin during the cleansing and exfoliation process. My estheticians always explained to me that the steam opened up my pores and allowed my skin to absorb all those wonderful ingredients they were … Continue reading

How to Make Your Own Essential Oil Skin Care Blends
I’ve been making essential oil facial blends a long time – since I first became a certified Aromatherapist, in fact. I used to have a long list of clients for whom I would customize essential oil blends, and for each of them, I would sit down and do a lengthy consultation about their top skin concerns as well as do skin patch testing with specific essential oils. Since I can’t sit with you in person and do the skin patch testing, I am going to ask that you do a skin patch test on your own whenever you want to … Continue reading

Essential Oil Blends for Facial Skin Care
Does this sound familiar? I am a busy new Mom who is juggling working, blogging, a couple new businesses, and a 10.5 month old. Oh, and a husband, too. So I kind of pushed taking care of myself a little further down on my priority list, and by taking care of myself, I mean specifically, making any effort to look attractive. (See my blog post about the first time I went shopping after giving birth). Pre-baby, I had it pretty good. I used to own a wellness spa, and so great estheticians, regular facials, and excellent, effective, and organic skin … Continue reading
